![]() Image above and right: some samples of the bacterium Clostridium difficile.
This particular bacterium is mostly found in the health care setting such as hospitals due to being spread by contact but Clostridium difficile can also be airborne. The amount of compromised individuals and envionment a hospital can be leaves room for little error when it comes to cleanliness. Please do your part by washing your hands regularly with soap and hot water to help in the prevention of spreading C. difficile! | Clostridium difficile is a gram-positive bacterium that can cause a mild to severe infection within the gastrointestinal tract. For healthy individuals, it is normal to have some of this bacteria living within the stomach and colon, but for individuals with an extremely compromised immune system, it could become fatal due to fluid loss and severe dehydration. C. difficile is easily spread when surfaces are not cleaned properly, there is cross-contamination, or as simple as lack of proper hand-washing.
